Três Coroas, just an hour and a twenty minutes from Porto Alegre, has a part of Tibet in Rio Grande do Sul. It is the ideal destination for those seeking peace and quiet times while diving into a different culture. At the top of the highlands, offering a sweeping view of the valley that extends to the horizon, is the Khadro Ling, an authentic Buddhist temple. The red building, the color that symbolizes compassion, makes a strong contrast with the green landscape.
Built in 1995, the site was chosen by the master Chagdud Tulku Rimpoche due to its similarities to the high-altitude landscapes of Tibet. The Buddhist center was not designed to be a tourist attraction, but eventually became popular among the non-practitioners of the religion. There are guided tours inside the temple and explanatory signs in all monuments and paintings. For those who like souvenirs, there is a small shop that sells religious articles.

Inside the sacred building, there are sculptures, bells and wind instruments that come directly from India and Nepal. Pay attention to details of the decoration and ask about the philosophy and the practice of Tibetan Buddhism. On Sunday mornings, there is meditation open to visitors, but it is important to call ahead to confirm. For those who want to lighten their minds and come into contact with the spiritual side, the prayers room is the ideal place.
How to get there
The temple is in Águas Claras, Três Coroas. Follow the RS-020 toward São Francisco de Paula. Turn left at the bus stop 177. Follow the dirt road and pay attention to the signs to Khadro Ling. Those going by bus should get off at stop 177 and walk about one kilometer.
