There's hardly anything as popular in Brazil - beside Havaianas and churrasco - as cachaça. The sugarcane rum, exported to dozens of countries and the main ingredient of a true caipirinha, has a strong appeal among foreigners visiting the country. The Brazilian market is today supplied by more than 4,000 brands of cachaça, according to data from the Brazilian Beverages Association (Abebe), which estimates that there are approximately 39,200 small businesses in the sector, representing approximately 99% of the total number of producers. And exports do not stop growing: in the last year alone, sales exceeded US$ 16.5 million - 11% to U.S. consumers.

With the Fifa World Cup, the sale of cachaça should grow further in the 12 cities that are hosting the event, including Porto Alegre. This is the projection of companies such as Weber Haus - one of the most award-winning cachaçarias (cachaça producer) in Brazil, with more than 40 excellence awards. So much so that the brand has released a special label, named Camisa 8 (Jersey No. 8). The bottles bring an alembic cachaça stored for a year in a stainless steel tank with touches of oak - in "silver" and "gold" versions, both organic.
During the World Cup, in Porto Alegre, it's on sale at the Cais do Porto, at Cachaça Square, and at a kiosk in the Farroupilha Encampment, besides the Public Market, at store 92 (Cachaçaria do Mercado).
