For those of you visiting for the first time or perhaps only now coming into contact with Portuguese, there is... let's call it a myth, that the word "saudade" has no accurate translation.
According to our most traditional dictionary, Aurélio, 'saudade' is a "fond and, at the same time, distant memory, as of people or things far away or bygone, accompanied by a longing to once again see or have them; nostalgia".
This is how we feel today, now that Porto Alegre's participation in the 2014 Fifa World Cup has drawn to an end, with the battle between Germany and Algeria.
We, the Gaucho people, already feel 'saudade' if we think back on these wonderful days, this joy, the parties, the football...
We feel 'saudade' for all French, Honduran, Australian, Dutch, South Korean, Algerian, Nigerian, Argentine, and German visitors, and all the other nationalities that were here. Even more to us, here at ZH*, having produced these 17 editions in English with the ultimate goal of making you feel at home.
And 'saudade' can only be overcome by meeting up again.
So come back and visit again. You're always welcome!
